CLOSER (Circular raw materiaLs for European Open Strategic autonomy on chips and microElectronics pRoduction) is a project selected for funding under the call Interregional Innovation Investments (I3) Instrument by the European Commission, for a total of 14 millions euro.
CLOSER has the objective of contributing to the Chips Act Pillar 2 (the European Union’s regulation on semiconductors) through the recovery/recycling of raw materials for semiconductors and the recycling/reprocessing of critical components and raw materials coming from the microelectronics industry in Europe,
The complex Consortium is composed by 31 European key actors (SME, big companies, clusters, research centers and universities) coming from 8 european countries (plus Switzerland) and is lead by the University of Rome Tor Vergata.
The Brussels meeting, organized by Regione Lazio with the University of Rome Tor Vergata, represented the opportunity for the Italian regions to discuss future development and the future market exploitation of the project’s results. Moreover, an international event for the kick-off meeting of the project, aimed at discussing and disseminating the project activities, has been planned for October 2024 in Rome.

Presentato a Bruxelles il progetto I3 CLOSER: investimento di 14 milioni per filiere innovative sul recupero di materiali per la produzione di microchip
CLOSER (Circular raw materiaLs for European Open Strategic autonomy on chips and microElectronics pRoduction), è un progetto selezionato per il finanziamento nell’ambito del Programma I3 – Strumento per gli investimenti interregionali in innovazione tramite il Fondo Europeo per lo Sviluppo Regionale, per un importo totale di circa 14 milioni di euro.
CLOSER ha l’obiettivo di contribuire, attraverso il recupero/riciclo di materie prime per semiconduttori ed il riciclo/riprocesso dei componenti critici e delle materie prime provenienti dalla produzione di microelettronica in Europa, al Chips Act Pillar 2, il regolamento dell’Unione europea sui semiconduttori.

L’articolato partenariato, composto da 31 attori chiave europei (PMI, grandi imprese, cluster, centri di ricerca ed università, oltre a facilitatori dell’economia circolare) provenienti da 18 regioni europee di 8 Paesi diversi, oltre alla Svizzera in qualità di Paese associato, ha come capofila l’Università di Roma Tor Vergata.
L’iniziativa, organizzata dalla Regione Lazio insieme all’Università Tor Vergata, ha rappresentato l’occasione per le regioni italiane di discutere dei futuri sviluppi e della auspicabile futura capitalizzazione dei risultati. Si è anche discusso, dal punto di vista organizzativo e di disseminazione, dell’evento internazionale che si terrà in occasione del kick-off meeting del progetto previsto nel mese di ottobre a Roma.
